Junior Balloonists Program

Welcome to the Waikato Hot Air Balloon Club’s Junior Balloonists Program! This exciting initiative is designed to ignite the passion for ballooning in young enthusiasts. Our program offers a unique opportunity for children and teenagers to explore the fascinating world of hot air ballooning, learn the science behind it, and gain hands-on experience.

What We Offer

Educational Workshops: Interactive sessions that cover the basics of ballooning, including the principles of flight, the parts of a hot air balloon, and safety procedures.
Hands-On Experience: Junior balloonists get the chance to assist with inflating and deflating the balloon, learn how to operate the burner, and even take short tethered flights under the supervision of experienced pilots.
Field Trips: Exciting excursions to hot air balloon festivals and events, where junior members can witness ballooning in action and meet seasoned pilots.
Mentorship: Guidance from experienced balloonists who share their knowledge and passion for ballooning, fostering a supportive and inspiring environment.
Fun Activities: Engaging activities such as balloon-themed crafts, games, and team-building exercises that encourage camaraderie and a love for ballooning.

Who Can Join?

Our Junior Balloonists Program is open to children and teenagers aged 11 to 14. No prior experience is necessary—just a curiosity about hot air balloons and a willingness to learn!
